Hombu Dojo, Elkton, MD - May 24, 2008: Sensei Popp provided a Kendo seminar today covering various basics within the art. There were 5 members of the Order of Isshin Ryu who made the trip to Hombu dojo for the opportunity to work with Sensei Popp.
David Caldwell, Joe Ragan, and Aaron Walker were able to work closely with black belts Jerry Robinette (Kendo Ni-dan) and Adam Knox (Kendo Sho-dan). The following basics were covered during the two-hour session: stance, grip of the shinai, formal target areas, movement with the strike, and various formalities required during practice. Furthermore, the attendees were able to "gear up" with full bogu armor and practice striking. Finally, Sensei's Popp and Knox demonstrated the 7 long sword kata at the end of the seminar.
